You may mail or fax the form to the ÆR. The address and fax number are specified in the first paragraph of the agreement. Please note that we cannot publish articles without author approval of the agreement.

With regard to your original and previously unpublished paper listed above (the Work), which has been accepted for publication in the Astronomy Education Review (AER), the following terms are submitted for your consideration. If these terms are satisfactory, please sign below and return this agreement to Dr. Sidney C. Wolff, Editor, AER, NOAO, P.O. Box 26732, Tucson, AZ 85726. You also may fax your signed agreement to 520-318-8360, marked to the attention of Sidney Wolff. We cannot publish your paper without this approval.
Ownership of Copyright: As the Author of the Work submitted to AER, you are the original owner of the copyright, and the Work is protected under provisions of the U.S. Copyright Act. As the author, you may register the copyright, manage copyright rights and reprint requests, and pursuing infringement questions that may arise.
Rights Assigned to the Astronomy Education Review and its publisher, the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. (AURA): The Astronomy Education Review is a non-profit publication of a non-profit corporation dedicated to sharing information with the widest possible educational audience. The Astronomy Education Review's policy is to encourage our authors and readers to copy and make productive use for non-profit purposes of works published. While you retain the copyright and other literary rights to the article submitted, you assign to the Astronomy Education Review a non-exclusive right to the copyright, including, but not limited to, publication rights as described below:
Copyright Assignment:
- Because AURA is undertaking to publish this paper, and because you desire to have this paper so published, you hereby grant to AURA the exclusive right to publish the Work for the first time.
- You also assign to AURA a non-exclusive, continuing right throughout the world to reproduce, distribute, and publicly display or perform the Work in whole or in part, in any medium, whether now known or later developed, including, but not limited to, transmission of the Work and an abstract thereof to abstracting or search services, and deposit of the Work in an archive. You further authorize AURA to permit others to do these same things with the Work.
- The Author agrees to cite his/her Work as first published in
the Astronomy Education Review whenever reproducing it, a copyright
statement and citation as follows:
© [year], [Author's Name]. Copyright assigned to and first published in the Astronomy Education Review, followed by the journal citation. The Astronomy Education Review is published by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc.
- You will receive no payment from AURA for the publication of the Work. Please note, however, that you may grant or deny requests to reproduce the Work in books or journals and you may retain all fees from such reprinting. Such requests made to the Astronomy Education Review will be referred to the author.
- You agree to the following use policy of the Astronomy
Education Review:
Provided that the copyright header attached to the Work is retained and provided that the content is not modified, individuals and libraries may:
- Download, save, and print the Work for personal use
- Store the Work for reserve use in either paper or electronic form
- Download, print, and distribute the Work in multiple copies for classroom use as long as they are not sold for this or other commercial purposes
- Download and save the Work on a local domain fileserver in order to provide online access to a local academic community, provided that access to the files on a library's file server is restricted to the single domain of the domain owner
- Place unlimited copies of the Work on reserve, whether in paper or electronic form
The Astronomy Education Review encourages and appreciates links to AER in your own Web pages. Permission is expressly granted for any person to place a link in his or her own Web page to the AER home page or to any article in AER.
Without the Author's written permission, Astronomy Education Review will not authorize reprint and redistribution of AER articles outside a user's home campus or institution or for resale or use in any profit-making enterprise. Requests for such permission will be referred to the author.
Who Should Sign: The agreement should be signed by the lead author or, in the case of a “work made for hire,” by the owner of the copyright. An author who is a U.S. Government officer or employee and who prepared the paper as part of his or her official duties cannot claim copyright ownership. Any coauthor who is not in this category should sign this agreement. If all of the authors are in U.S. Government employees, please advise in writing and return this form unsigned.
In signing this Copyright Agreement, the undersigned represents and warrants that the Work submitted for publication in the Astronomy Education Review is original work not previously published and that the undersigned is the copyright owner and retains all rights to offer the article for publication. The undersigned further warrants that the article contains no defamatory material.
